The first Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in 2012 have made their first appearance in the United States, ahead of their competition debut in the American Le Mans Series. Although the machine is called with the name 2012, the latest GT3 RSR is actually still based on the 997 model, not the latest version of the Porsche 991 long-running 911 series.
However, there are plenty of updates that make them interesting to GT3, race car driver. For starters, a mandatory air-throttle can not get enough oxygen into the 4.0-liter boxer six to 460 hp in the 310-millimeter rear wheels, the body that is 48 millimeters wider than before supply is required. Like the 911 Turbo models new air scoops in the rear fenders to be installed - just a small part of a completely revised aerodynamics package.
Three images of the 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in race trim during the shakedown test at Sebring was released, and you can see above. A full press release after the break, if you're so inclined.
