Volvo confirms V60 Plug-In Hybrid for production ahead of Geneva debut


After releasing first details and a lonely picture, Volvo has more information and pictures of their newest products. The V60 plug-in hybrid is a statement of the world's first diesel-hybrid plug-in, packaging coupled a 2.4-liter five-cylinder turbo diesel with a 70-hp electric motor on the rear axle.

The hybrid diesel car, the driver can select one of three modes of drive: Pure for AC electric drive for propulsion and power for an extra boost by both Hybrid. The flexible drive train also gives the driver the opportunity to save battery life and operating costs purely on diesel pusher (for example, when entering the city), and a through-the-road all-wheel-drive option by both engines when traction is limited.

As a plug-in hybrid, the Volvo Accumulator in 7.5 hours on a 6 amp socket, are charged 4.5 to 10 amps or as little as 3 hours at 16 amps. And while the production targets were not discussed in yesterday's announcement, Volvo has now confirmed that the V60 plug-in hybrid will hit dealers next year. Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid detailed ahead of Geneva debut [w/video]


While hypermile debate the various pros and cons of diesel over hybrids, Volvo is to ask: "Why not have both?" As promised, the Swedish automaker rolled in Geneva with what it is calling "the world's first diesel-hybrid plug-in.

Packed into the slim V60 Kombi packs, the diesel-hybrid powertrain that two can work separately or in combination. Front is a 2.4-liter five-cylinder turbo diesel with 215 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque, while a 70-horsepower electric motor with a 12-kWh lithium-ion battery turns of Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD ).

At the press of a V60 hybrid can be in Pure mode as an EV with a 32-mile range to operate on electric power alone. In hybrid mode, there are less than 50 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, with a 746-mile range, and in the power mode, the engine has increased as a torque monster with a total capacity at 472 lb-ft for a turn of 6,9 - Second sprint to 62 miles per hour. That may not seem too fast, but carry a diesel car so much Duracell, it is relatively fast.
