Report: Counterfeit parts overwhelm China, include fake airbags, oil seals

According to Automotive News China, the dark side of the People's Republic should be sold on 45000000000 $ value of counterfeit auto parts this year. These include high-volume items such as spark plugs, brake pads and steering components, shaft seals and airbags. Overall, the report says that China is a hefty 83 percent of the world's counterfeit parts, which the three largest producers by a wide margin. The report goes on to state that Taiwan and Thailand, which are for five percent of the pie each, while Japan and Malaysia weigh in with two percent of the counterfeit market.
In many cases the authorities are ill-equipped to handle the sheer volume of rip-off artists. In one case a plant, knock-off shaft seals produced below only once a year to reopen at full capacity will be closed. The plant had the capacity to produce over seven million items of fake oil seals per year in 2008. Now that number up to 10 million.
In the case of the seals used by the manufacturer low-grade rubber and metal, to reduce costs, and as a result of the counterfeit items bear a price tag that is less than half the genuine article. They are also almost guaranteed to fail.
Meanwhile, start legitimate Chinese companies, their boxes with Radio Frequency ID tags adapt their products to distinguish them from counterfeits.
