NHTSA probing 44,000 Toyota Highlander Hybrid crossovers over stall risk


According to The Detroit News, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration investigation nearly 44,000 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is open vehicles from model year 2006 concerns about stalling. The Agency has received 32 complaints, with 21 of these incidents stalling at speeds of 40 miles per hour. A total of 26 reports said that the engine will not be restarted afterwards. NHTSA says that is the problem of a growing trend, and that all but one of the incidents occurred during the last year.

Toyota, meanwhile, says that the company is doing everything in their power to cooperate with the government investigation. As the Detroit News reported that Toyota recalled recently because 1.33 million Corolla and Matrix vehicles for stalling engines. The recall also includes certain Pontiac Vibe models.

Toyota is just now beginning to reclaim from a rash of recalls with unintended acceleration costs. The Japanese automaker has recently been confirmed by research by NASA engineers that were there nothing wrong with electronically calculated the company's throttle.
