Report: Diesel Chevrolet Cruze confirmed for U.S.

According to the crew at General Motors GMInsideNews is mulling the idea of introducing a diesel Chevrolet Cruze in the U.S. market. Sources within the Lordstown, Ohio assembly plant for piecing together the compact sedan have confirmed that a diesel will be built Cruze for 2013. If that's not enough to wipe the stench of skepticism from your person, GMI says that additional sources have confirmed to The General's engineering team, that an oil-burning Cruze is on the company's Web site schedule.

Production is rumored to kick off the project sometime next year.

There are even rumors that GM is currently testing Cruze diesel models around the Detroit area now. Although there is no power or fuel economy figures are currently available, expects GM to make use of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the new model. That would be the same lump in the Holden Cruze CDX, which turns out 147 hp and 235 pound-feet of torque at up to 34 miles per gallon combined to be found.
