Lancia launches all-new Ypsilon premium hatch ahead of Geneva debut

Italy's attack on the Mini's area has more than a drawer full of forks and tines include more brands and labels as a department store. On the one hand there is the ever-popular Fiat 500 Second, the Alfa Romeo Mito. And now we have the latest: the new Lancia Ypsilon, which has revealed the Italian car manufacturer just before the scheduled premiere at the upcoming motor show in Geneva.
Unlike the model it replaces - and the Cinque Cento, on which it is based - the Y is a five-door model, but included in a compact package, with hidden rear door handles. Pitched as a premium offering more than 500, the larger is Y A focus on refinement, with such a cabin touches as LED lighting in the instrument panel, a special sound-absorbing headliner, a large sun terrace and a variety of electronic systems - from the "magic Parking with Blue & Me and TomTom Live connectivity - available features you expect to find in a flagship luxury sedan.
Lancia also highlights the adaptability of the new Ypsilon, with 17 outside shades (including four two-color combinations), three interior trim levels (Silver, Gold and Platinum), six different fillings and three kinds of alloys. In addition, there are four engines in the range of launch: a 1.2-liter engine with 69 hp, 85hp with the 900cc TwinAir, a 95hp 1.3-liter Multijet turbo diesel and a flex-fuel 1.2-liter LPG engine, available with manual or semi-automatic transmissions.
The Y will be sold on the European continent as a Lancia, but fascinating, it will carry Chrysler badges and grillework when it crossed the English Channel, around the British Isles. Enter a suitable springboard for Chrysler in North America and the lineup? We have to wait and see, but Lancia also got a number of rebadged Chrysler's accession to the Ypsilon in Geneva.
