NFL asks Toyota to edit helmet-to-helmet hit out of ad [w/video]

Those who managed to an NFL game or two in this year's catch is certainly aware that the league crack down (with stiff fines and penalties) on the type of violent helmet-to-helmet hits, probably concussion, either the hitter cause of the hittee. And for good reason - the NFL and a number of independent organizations have found that such head injuries can far more damage over the long term as once thought.
What does all this to do with cars? Glad you asked. Research into new helmet designs and technologies is currently underway, and something interesting that Toyota is capable of data to several universities that is valuable both for vehicle safety research and for sports-related head injuries have his THUMS (Total Human Model for Safety) injuries simulation software.
Sounds pretty good so far, right? In fact, Toyota was so pleased with his contributions assurance that they highlighted in an advertisement, which aired during the Sunday slate of NFL games. Unfortunately, there was a small wee problem ... The commercial showed a particularly violent helmet-to-helmet hit - exactly the same type of injury as the NFL is doing its best, is itself a distance.
Not surprisingly, Toyota asked the NFL a little creative editing to do on the commercial. In other words, take the hit in question or we have to stop our network partners shows your advertising. In the end, Reuters (via Yahoo) reports that Toyota reluctantly obliged and changed its commercial accordingly. Score one for safety?
Check out the extended cut of the ad after the break.
