Report: Volkwagen Twincharger could be killed

Autocar reports that Volkswagen may soon drop the ax on its double-charged gasoline engine. Why? The automaker seems to refer to the shocking realization that the 1.4-liter mill is too complex and expensive to come to produce. In other news, researchers have discovered that water is still, in fact, wet.

The engine combines both to reduce a turbocharger and supercharger, increase the effect of turbo lag and driveability. In the future, the people said to automakers in the pursuit of a turbo engine, produce similar performance and fuel economy at a much lower manufacturing costs may be interested. If it's good enough for the Chevrolet Cruze, we suggest that Volkswagen engineers think that it's good enough for the company's products.

VW netted several awards for its 1.4-liter, twin-turbocharged four-cylinder engine, including the Engine of the Year Award in 2009 and 2010. Whether the rumors true dusting from Autocar demise of the lumps or not remains to be seen. Stay tuned.
