Torture-tested Ford EcoBoost V6 engine torn down at Detroit Auto Show

Just as promised, Ford sent a few engineers the show floor at the 2011 Detroit auto show before a live audience at the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine that was torture for the equivalent of some 100,000 miles of approved break strict Obligation on the dyno and in the engine room of different F-Series trucks.

How did it fair? Pretty good, we would say, and managed to churn took 364 HP and 420 pound-feet of torque to the test after all the abuse it. This fits rather well with the work of 365 horses and 420 lb ratings-ft.

As expected, there was a good amount of carbon build-up on piston crowns and valves - think of how much dust was probably over 1062 miles of the Baja 1000 race that the engine part taken, finishing first overall victory in his Class - along with a 13 percent loss on a cylinder during the leak-down test. All other first measurements were within factory tolerances and Ford will continue to test every single piece of this engine to ensure durability.

No doubt, this is an impressive showing for the EcoBoost engine. See many more pictures and tell first hand of the tear-down process at PickupTrucks.com.
